REMEMBRANCE Sunday in Petersfield will be commemorated with a parade through town and a service at the War Memorial.

Organised by Petersfield British Legion, who also runs the Poppy Appeal collection in the town, serving servicemen, those retired, veterans, and their families, are all invited to meet in the Swan Street car park at 10am on Sunday, November 13.

British Legion chairman Commander Clive Lewis (retired) said: “British Legion members or not, they are very welcome to march in the parade to The Square, and the Salvation Army band will accompany the parade.”

Also marching will be Petersfield Air Cadets, Churchers College Combined Cadet Force, and youngsters from Petersfield scouts, cubs, beavers, guides, brownies, and rainbows.

Once in The Square, Churchers College Orchestra will perform incidental music, while Bedales students hand out leaflets outlining the Order of Service, and collecting for the Poppy Appeal.

There will also be a short service in The Square

Cmdr Lewis said: “I am delighted to say that for the first time, The Petersfield School choir will be singing at the service.”

The parade, and those paying their respects, will then march down the High Street to the War Memorial.

Once there, the Role of Honour will be read, wreaths will be laid by Petersfield dignitary’s, representatives of the armed forces, and other organisations.

At 11am the Last Post will be played by bugler Lucy Humphris, it will be followed by two minutes, silence, Lucy will then play Reveille, and the National Anthem will be sung.

Road closures will be in place for the event, and there will be free car parking all day in the Swan Street car park and the central car park, by Waitrose.

The British Legion is also reminding residents that the last Poppy Appeal street collection is Thursday, November 10, but poppies will still be on sale until November 13 in shops and businesses.
