REPAIRS to a burst main in Petersfield may have caused tap water to turn cloudy in parts of the town last week.
At least one resident got in touch with South East Water last Wednesday after their supply turned a “bit brown”.
A disturbance to the network caused by emergency repairs to a burst six-inch water main on Winchester Road has been blamed for the discolouration.
Residents have been assured by the company’s head of water quality that the discoloured water was not harmful to health.
“Discolouration can happen when naturally occurring deposits, which build up and settle in our water mains network, are disturbed,” said Dr Neil Hudson. “Customers simply need to run the cold kitchen tap slowly until the water becomes clear.”
