ALL FOUR Petersfield schools have announced already they will be closed tomorrow, Friday March 2, due to the continuing bad weather.
More snow is forecast overnight tonight (Thursday) and during the day on Friday, and this has led to parents being told the schools are closed are for the second day running.
Head teacher at The Petersfield School Mark Marande said: “ Following a further deterioration in the forecasts for this evening, significant site safety issues and likely much reduced transport services tomorrow, the school will remain closed.
“All students have access to online learning systems including MyMaths and Doodle. Additionally, Year 11 students have revision to complete ahead of their Pre Public Examinations next week and can use their Knowledge Planners to assist them.
“We look forward to welcoming the students back to school on Monday, March 5.”
Churcher’s College head Simon Williams kept the school open on Thursday, March 1, but had to admit the weather was too bad for it to open tomorrow (March 2). Churcher’s Junior School at Liphook will also be closed.
Mr Williams said: “Despite all our very best efforts, and weather forecast suggesting Petersfield would be fortunate in respect to snow, the snow this evening and the icy conditions tonight suggest travel may be somewhat treacherous in the morning.
“As such regretfully the schools will be closed tomorrow, and all Hockey and Netball fixtures are cancelled.”
Herne Junior School will also be closed tomorrow.
Head teacher Tony Markham said: “The school will be closed tomorrow (March 2) due to the snow.”
Petersfield Infant School head Allyson Crew said the decision to close the school had been made after consulting the school governors.
She added : “ Due to the snowy conditions forecast again for tomorrow and the severe weather warnings in place, the school will be closed again on Friday March 2.
“The safety of all members of our community are paramount and this decision has been made in conjunction with the Chair of Governors.
“All being well, school will reopen on Monday, March 5.”
