A JOINT exhibition with a Far Eastern feel has been unveiled by two sisters at a new gallery in West Sussex.

The land of the rising sun has heavily influenced Jasmine and Saffron Morita’s work as they have a Japanese mother and an English father.

Their close links with their Japanese heritage is clear to see in the Morita Sister’s Exhibition which opened yesterday (Tuesday) in the Black Barn Gallery on Durleighmarsh Farm.

Their identity is expressed through their artwork and its fusion of colours, with their paintings reflecting their experiences and perception of Japan.

The siblings both studied at Churcher’s College and both attained A-levels in fine art. Jasmine is currently studying fine art at Brighton University and Saffron is about to start a degree in London.

Their three-week exhibition, which will be open to the public daily until September 20, is one of the first to take place in The Courtyard at Durleighmarsh Farm.

Artist Jackie Dredge, whose ceramic work will be displayed in the Petersfield Physic Garden this week as part of the 7UP exhibition, wants the gallery to showcase local talent and new emerging artists.
