PEOPLE across Petersfield are being urged to do their bit to keep the area clean by taking part in a litter pick.

Organised by The Petersfield Society, it will take place on Sunday at 2pm, meet at Winton House in the High Street.

The mayor of Petersfield, Jamie Matthews, will also be taking part.

Beth Svarovska is organising the event as she is a trustee of The Petersfield Society.

She said: “I don’t think there’s any need for there to be any litter.

“There are plenty of bins around.

“It’s so easy for people to take their rubbish with them.

“It’s important to do anything we can do as a community to support the council in keeping Petersfield beautiful and come together and help everyone think differently about litter.

“It’s about not dropping it and noticing litter and picking it up.”

Beth said she was inspired to look after her area more after hearing an author talk passionately about litter picking around a year ago.

She added: “It made me more aware of the litter I saw around me. I found myself picking up litter rather than just walking past it.

“Each week on a Saturday or a Sunday morning I will go for a walk and try and keep my little area clear of litter.”

From around 4pm on Sunday, those involved in the litter pick either on the day or in the days preceding it are invited to enjoy coffee and cake at Winton House.

People are also being urged to collect litter by collecting bags from Beth and doing it in their own time.
