A STUDENT from Petersfield is celebrating scooping a haul of awards at the International Submarine Race in the United States.

Josh Lahiri, who studies engineering, was part of a team of students from the University of Warwick who designed and built a submarine.

They finished as the UK champions at the event in Washington DC and finished in third place internationally in its class for speed.

Team leader Verena Oetzmann said: “I could not be happier about our successful performance this year.

“It feels good to see that all the hard work has paid off. The team has done a truly fantastic job in designing, building and racing the vessel.”
