A STUDENT at The Petersfield School has won a place at the Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships in Canada this summer.
It was announced by Down Syndrome Swimming GB on Tuesday (April 24) that Year Nine pupil Lizzie Allen will join the Great Britain team for the championships at Truro in Nova Scotia between July 19 and July 27.
A spokesman for the school off Cranford Road said: “Congratulations, Lizzie, we are proud of you.”
Lizzie won her place after breaking the Junior World Record in 25m freestyle by 0.07 seconds with a time of 19.36 seconds at the European Down Syndrome Open Swimming in Southampton over the weekend of Saturday, April 21.
In total she came away with gold medals in the 25m backstroke, butterfly, freestyle and 100m breast stroke races, and silver medals in the 25m and 50m breast stroke, 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle competitions, she also achieved four personal best times over the weekend.
A spokesman for Down Syndrome Swimming GB added: “What a weekend of swimming at the European championships, with outstanding times from the young swimmers including Lizzie Allen.”
