A TEAM from Petersfield has begun its attempt on one of the most gruelling of physical tests in the UK, the Welsh 3000s Challenge.

The team from Moneybarn vehicle finance company in Bedford Road will start their attempt to climb 15 Welsh mountains higher than 3,000 feet tomorrow (June 9).

During the 24-hour non-stop event, the eight hikers, backed up by their six-strong support team, will walk 30 miles, most of it up and down the mountains.

In the process, they hope to raise thousands of pounds for The Rowans hospice and Cancer Research UK.

Before tackling the physically draining challenge the team has been in dedicated training since last year.

Hiker Allan Cummings said: “The training put in will be the key to our ability to complete this, we have become a very cohesive group.”

Support crew member Sam Wooller said: “The team has spent hundreds of hours in the gym and gone on practice hikes across the South Downs every fortnight.”
