PETERSFIELD’S visitor information centre, currently based in the library in The Square, is set to be moved to the Festival Hall.

The former Tourist Information Centre was saved from closure earlier this year when Petersfield Town Council (PTC) took over funding it at a cost of around £40,000 for the year to April 2019. It was threatened with closure in the Spring when East Hampshire District Council refused to renew its annual operating grant, saying the money could be better spent promoting Petersfield in other ways.

PTC now employs the centre’s staff and says it is considering moving them and the counter and tourist information stands to the Festival Hall.

At its meeting on Monday, December 10, the council’s finance committee said the council was committed to the future of the visitor centre, but would be looking at moving it to the hall.

A decision about relocating the centre will be made before April next year.
