PETERSFIELD’S recycling centre is once more under threat as Hampshire County Council prepares to ask residents yet again how recycling overheads can be reduced.

In 2014 the council carried out a major survey asking for views on tip opening hours, staffing levels and how to make it less expensive to run them. Once the dust settled, it was decided Petersfield recycling centre in Bedford Road should continue as previously.

But now the council says due to more government funding cuts, it needs to draw its financial belt even tighter, and is preparing to launch a second survey, very similar to the 2014 one.

The objective will be to again reduce spending on recycling, and once again nothing is being “ruled out” says the council, including centre closures and reducing opening hours.

A council spokesman said: “Dates for the consultation into the recycling service will be confirmed soon, and the council will be keen to hear from as many people as possible.”
