‘Mistletoe on Common Lime towers above new rooflines on the development at the former Molson Coors brewery in Alton,’ writes Dr June Chatfield. ‘Winter, when the leaves have fallen from trees, is the time to see mistletoe which is spreading and growing fast. It is a partial parasite on trees but with its yellow green leaves makes much of its own sugars from carbon dioxide and water in the atmosphere. From year to year the sizes and numbers of clusters in a tree can be seen to increase. It favours hybrid trees like Common Lime. Poplars and domestic apple.’
