THERE was an exciting festive delivery at Butser Ancient Farm over the Christmas break, as three sows gave birth to seventeen piglets.

The sows arrived at Butser last summer and two are Saddlebacks from Manor Farm in Bursledon, and the third is an Oxford Sandy and Black from Bedales School in Steep, near Petersfield.

Farm spokesman Tiffany Francis said: “The piglets are currently sleeping inside their shelter, known as ‘Pig Palace,’ under a heat lamp, but over the next few weeks they will start coming out into the open, playing in the mud, and meeting schoolchildren and members of the public.”

It is planned to sell the piglets in February, and for more details contact Butser Ancient Farm on 023 9259 8838.

The farm and visitor centre are now open to visitors every weekday from 10am to 4pm, and a video of the piglets can be viewed by following the link www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKDapeuLxmY
