CALA Homes (Thames) has submitted a full planning application to South Downs National Park Authority for a development of 26 high quality new homes on land off Ramsdean Road in Stroud.

CALA Homes consulted with local residents and Council Officers during the formulation of its proposals for the development, which will feature a mix of one to five-bedroom homes for families, downsizers and first-time buyers alike. Eight of the properties have been allocated as affordable homes in response to the need for affordable rental and shared equity tenures identified by the local authority. Each of the properties have been carefully designed to complement the characteristics of the village using materials to help them blend seamlessly with the surrounding area.

As part of its proposed plans, CALA will be making significant contributions to the local community by pledging a significant CIL payment to Stroud Parish Council to enhance the village’s facilities and amenities. An important inclusion in the proposal is the building of a brand new village hall, featuring a large function room for the community to use. The new hall will sit within the development, as well as a small purpose-built village green, offering plenty of open space for the local community to enjoy.

CALA will also be adding planting and landscaping around the development to enhance its visual appeal, including retaining a large number of trees on site that are subject to Tree Protection Orders.

Caroline Green, Planning Manager at CALA Homes (Thames), said: “CALA Homes has an award-winning reputation for well-designed homes in prime locations and we are excited at the prospect of becoming a part of the Stroud community. We think this is the right scheme for the area; the site is sustainable, with good access to local amenities and, more importantly, this development will bring much needed homes to the region.

“At CALA, we think it is important to contribute towards the communities in which CALA builds, which is why we are delighted to be reinstating a village hall in Stroud after the loss of the previous hall to a fire many years ago. We have worked extremely hard to ensure that our proposal is designed in order to deliver a high quality development that will be a positive addition to the local community.”The plans can be viewed on the South downs National Park Authority planning search webpage, reference SDNP/17/01744/FUL.
