LISS Parish Council has approved the Liss Neighbourhood Plan, which has now been forwarded to the South Downs National Park Authority for their scrutiny.

The council decided at the meeting on November 21 to approve the plan and its supporting documents.

Liss Parish Council chairman Keith Budden said: “This is a plan we can be proud of which has been well delivered at a low budget.

“It is an excellent plan which takes into account all the needs of the village, and it will provide a very sound foundation for the village going forward. The plan gives a clear indication to developers which sites will be available and what we would like to see on them.”

It has taken two years to reach this point, and Cllr Budden praised parish councillor Roger Hargreaves and all of the other volunteers for their work on the plan.

Cllr Budden said: “It has been very important to have Roger Hargreaves’ expertise involved with the plan, and Roger has put in hundreds of hours of work into it. Sir John Dunt has also done an excellent group leading the steering group and keeping the plan on time, and I’m very pleased with what they’ve done.

“I find the plan a very readable document and it is not full of technical jargon.

“I’m really pleased we’ve got it to this stage and have done it at a much lower budget than some of the other neighbourhood plans.”

The steering group hope that the national park will approve the plan early next year, and then there will be an independent examination by a specially appointed inspector. Once this hurdle is cleared there will be a referendum in Liss, probably in May, and all those on the electoral roll will be encouraged by the steering group to vote and approve the plan.

If 50 per cent of those who vote say yes to the plan, it will become legally binding on developers to adhere to the proposals for new housing on five green field sites close to the centre of the village. It is envisaged that the 150 new homes will be built by 2028.
