PLANS for a new pavilion in Liss have moved another step forward.

Liss Parish Council has approved the plans covering the design and layout for the pavilion in Station Road which are to be submitted for planning approval.

The decision was made at the parish council’s meeting earlier this month on September 18.

Liss Parish Council vice-chairman Keith Budden said: “We have all agreed to go for planning and I’m hoping the planning application will be in by the end of the month.

“Then it’s nine weeks until we get a decision from the planners, so we should know the outcome in the first week of December.

“Personally, I’m very pleased with the design.”

The parish council has also agreed to a contract with Michael Weakley as the project manager of the pavilion project.

Cllr Budden said: “I think Michael has been a real breath of fresh air to the process and I value his experience.

“He has delivered solutions in other parts of the county, including South Wonston which we have visited twice.

“We all felt if we have a building like the one in South Wonston we will be well served.”

With the planning application set to be submitted, the parish council has agreed to set aside a sum of up to £10,000. This money will go towards the planning application, advice from a surveyor to cost the Scouts requirements for usage, initial legal costs and other ad hoc expenditure.

Cllr Budden added: “We have agreed up to £10,000 to give us some flexibility, but we might not spend all of it.

“Having been through the planning process before we know things can crop up and this time we have got the money in hand to deal with it.

“If we get planning permission in early December we will then go out to tender and hopefully the tender process will be completed by the end of January.

“Hopefully in March we could start the work.

“We think the pavilion project will cost between £550,000 and £575,000, and once we get planning permission we can apply for the £350,000 loan from the public works loan board.”
