WHITEHILL and Bordon’s state-of-the-art leisure centre could be open within 18 months after East Hampshire District Council gave the plans the green light.

The centre, proposed by leisure operator Everyone Active for land between Camp Road and the A325 near the new town centre, will replace the current facility at Mill Chase Academy, which will remain open until construction is completed during 2019.

The new building will incorporate a range of facilities, including a six-lane 25-metre indoor pool, a learner pool with family-friendly changing facilities, a large fitness suite and two studios which will host an extensive range of classes and activities.

The centre will be developed in line with the environmental and sustainability objectives of the Whitehill and Bordon masterplan and is being partially funded by the Whitehill and Bordon Regeneration Company through a £3.6m developer contribution.

Leader of East Hampshire District Council, Cllr Richard Millard, said: “The new centre will be an innovative, professional and creative facility which will encourage people to live a healthier lifestyle.

“This fantastic new facility will be a big part in the regeneration of the town, and fits perfectly with our ambition to transform Whitehill and Bordon into a green and healthy town.”

Whitehill town councillor Andy Tree was among community representatives who welcomed the leisure centre’s approval. He said: “Very exciting times lay ahead. I will be keeping an eye on the progress.”
