A PLAQUE was unveiled under a tree at the Memorial Garden at Newman Collard to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

The event was organised by the Newman Collard Playing Fields Trust in conjunction with Liss Parish Council and was supported by the infant and junior schools, Liss Royal British Legion (RBL), the Scouts and Brownies, Liss Band and the village’s district councillors.

The Rev Richard Hutchings dedicated the tree and parish council chairman Roger Hargreaves said a few words. Cllr Hargreaves and school children Summer Booty and Dillon Twist helped plant the tree, and Liss RBL chairman Lt Col Terry O’Connor spoke. The Last Post was sounded and there was a minute’s silence.
