PETERSFIELD Police is appealing for witnesses or information and offering security advice after a vehicle was broken into outside a house.

It was parked along Princes Road in Petersfield and the break in and the break in and theft happened overnight on Monday, January 30.

Petersfield and East Hampshire Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Kathryn Morning said: “Please let us know if you saw anything suspicious by calling 101 and quoting crime number 44170038924.”

Most thefts from vehicle are opportunist say police, and if valuables such as handbags, laptops, sat navs, iPods, mobile phones, cameras etc, are left on show, it is much more likely to be targeted by thieves.

PCSO Morning added: “Even items of little value, such as shopping bags and clothing, may tempt a potential thief to break into the vehicle to see whether they contain anything worth stealing.

“Offences can take place during the day or night, whether a vehicle is parked in a driveway, on the street or in a public car park. Typically. Thieves will smash windows to gain entry. “Sometimes they will break door locks or, on older vehicles, prise the door away from the body of the vehicle.

“So please remember to keep your vehicles secure at all times, or park it in a garage, or a well lit area, and take out all valuables and leave the glove box open to show there’s nothing in it.”
