POLICE are appealing for witnesses after three similar burglaries in Petersfield over Christmas.

They happened between Tuesday, December 20 and Thursday, December 29, at houses in Moggs Mead, Long Down and Monks Orchard.

In each case rear patio doors were smashed so entry could be gained.

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Tobey Mason said: “An unknown person, or persons, gained access to the houses by throwing a rock or paving slab through the glass of the rear patio doors and it was mainly jewellery that was taken.

“It is not too late to report any suspicious activity to police, and this can be done by calling 101

“Please ensure that your property is kept locked and secure at all times. If you are away from your property for a long period it is a good idea to get a neighbour to keep an eye on your property until your return.”

PCSO Mason is also advising residents to look at their home security, and says the Hampshire Police crime prevention website offers advice and can be accessed at www.hampshire.police.uk/internet/advice-and-information/crime-prevention

He added: “Please also check your belongings to see if you can identify any with a unique etched code, if it’s possible, please sign up to immobilise at www.immobilise.com a national property register, which is free.”

Police are also reminding residents to report any suspicious activity, not just around their own property but anything suspicious locally or in the wider area by calling 999 in an emergency, or 101 for non-emergency.
