East Hampshire MP Damian Hinds has been appointed as the new Education Secretary.

The announcement came from the office of Prime Minister Theresa May at around 8pm this evening (Monday) after she spent the day reshuffling her cabinet.

Hinds replaces Justine Greening as Secretary of State for Education. Greening decided to resign from the Government after refusing another post she was offered.

Hinds has been MP for East Hampshire since 2010 after replacing Michael Mates in the seat.

He was Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury from May 2015 before becoming Employment Minister at the Department for Work and Pensions in July 2016.
