YOUNG people can find out about the work of East Hampshire Youth Council(EHYC)and how to get involved on a new website.

The council is open to anyone from 11 to 18 years who lives, learns or works in East Hampshire.

Supported by East Hampshire District Council(EHDC), the group aims to make a difference in the community and improve the quality of life for young people across the district.

The new website –www.easthantsyouthcouncil.org – offers news, events, social media links and a forum where ideas can be posted or issues chatted about.

EHYC chairman Josh Knight thanked EHDC staff for their support and said:?“The website was developed to a style dictated by the young people themselves.

“We wanted to focus on content over style and see this as a good way of informing people of what we are up to and attracting new members.”

The youth council has members elected from around the district.

Currently 15 members meet monthly to discuss issues of interest and help shape and influence policy and projects.

The council also runs a small grants programme called The Money Pot where young people’s groups can apply for up to £250 to enhance their projects.

Last year 15 projects were awarded a total of £3,035, benefitting 1,670 children and young people all over the district.
