FOLLOWING on from the success of November’s production of All Shook Up, Petersfield Theatre Group are hard at work readying themselves for their May show, Sweet Charity.
The story of Charity Hope Valentine, a New York dancer who seems to endlessly fall in love with the wrong man, was made famous by Shirley MacLaine in the 1969 film, and has been entertaining audiences for decades.
When Charity meets shy tax accountant Oscar it seems as though her luck might have changed. But she soon faces a choice between Oscar and the wild existence she has chosen to hide from him.
Experienced performer and director Mark Perry makes a welcome return, having directed Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2014. Musical director Gareth Baynham-Hughes with rehearsal pianist Philip Young make up the team which has strength and enthusiasm in equal measure.
With a score full of well-known numbers, Petersfield Theatre Group will be bringing this Swinging Sixties-style romp, through the underbelly of New York, to the Festival Hall, Petersfield, from May 23-26. Tickets from One Tree Books in Lavant Street, Petersfield or online at www.petersfieldtheatregroup.org
