TWO EXHIBITIONS at Liphook Heritage Centre are open for members of the public to view.

The first exhibition celebrates the 100th anniversary of Flora Thompson arriving in Liphook.

Liphook Heritage Centre chairman Ian Baker said: “Flora Thompson came to Liphook in 1916 and we’ve got a timeline of her time in Liphook.

“We’ve also got various paperwork and photographs, and how she came to Liphook.

“Flora’s husband worked for the Post Office.”

The other exhibition is celebrating 500 years of the Post Office in Liphook.

Ian said: “The Post Office exhibition features a map of the GU30 postcode area, with red dots showing where the postboxes are.

“The area covers from Passfield to Borden Wood, including Milland.

“We got a copy of the map from the Post Office, and the Post Office have been very helpful.

“We also have a replica postbox which a volunteer made, and a collection of envelopes which various people have loaned to us for the exhibition.

“Liphook had its own Post Office number, and we’ve got a postman’s log which carried equipment in it.

“We’ve also got a set of weights and postman’s ties.

“We have pictures of the Liphook Post Office from 1901 to 1934, and the Liphook Post Office from 1934 to 1989 which shut in 1989.

“Bramshott also used to have a Post Office, which closed in the 1970s, and Passfield had a Post Office which closed in 2008.”

The exhibition is going to continue expanding.

Ian said: “We have several items on the way to us and the exhibitions will be open for several months and will continue to gradually evolve.”

The Liphook Heritage Centre is also looking for more volunteers who can give their time to help at the centre.

Ian added: “We hope these exhibitions will attract interest and encourage people to join in.

“We are always looking for more volunteers, and we can give our volunteers training.”

The Liphook Heritage Centre is open to the public from 10am to noon on Mondays, 2pm to 4pm on Wednesdays and 10am to noon on Fridays.

It is also open from 10am to 1pm on the second Saturday of every month.
