BUILDINGS worldwide, including Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre will Light Up Purple for World Mental Health Day today (Monday, October 10).
Landmark and iconic buildings are illuminating in the vibrant hue to highlight the importance of mental health and wellbeing.
Every 40 seconds someone in the world takes their own life, a global tally of more than 800,000 suicides a years, according to the World Health Organisation.
The #LightUpPurple campaign aims to destigmatise issues around mental health and promote discussions on issues including digital safety, cyberbullying and exploitation.
The first World Mental Health Day was held in 1992, an initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health.
Other buildings in Guildford lighting up purple are Guildford Castle, Tunsgate and the Guildhall.
