IT DOESN’T feel like spring has arrived, given the freezing temperatures of the last few days.
But that’s exactly what revellers celebrated last Saturday as Butser Ancient Farm held its annual Imbolc Festival.
The festival – which dates to the Celtic period and heralds the arrival of lighter evenings – included a fire-lighting ceremony, storytelling and music.
Despite the cold weather the turnout was record-breaking with around 90 people taking part in the festivities.
“It was the best one yet and I reckon we probably had double the figures we usually get,” said farm director Simon Jay. “It’s a relatively small festival but it’s a nice one to start the year with.”
