DISRUPTION is expected to last all day on the Portsmouth to Waterloo rail line due to a points failure at Wimbledon.

Those travelling to London from Petersfield, Liss, Liphook, and Rowlands Castle will be among those affected, says network operator South Western Railway (SWR).

An SWR spokesman said: “Earlier this morning (Tuesday, March 27) our control centre received reports from a signaller that a set of points has failed at Wimbledon, meaning that fewer trains than usual can run towards London.

“A set of points is the part of the track that can move, allowing the train to change direction and head to a different section of the network.

“Network Rail engineers are on site, where they will work to rectify the problem and get the line back to normal working order.”

The most recent SWR tweet said: “Trains running through Wimbledon may be cancelled, changed or delayed. Disruption is expected to affect service until the end of the day.”

All rail services in to Waterloo will be affected, either running at a much reduced speed, delayed, or cancelled.

SWR is advising passengers to check with station staff, or use an on station ‘help point’ to access the latest time table information.

National Rail says rail services from Portsmouth and Southampton to London Victoria aren’t affected at the moment.
