IF?YOU?have been inspired by all the bicentennial commemorations and celebrations for Jane Austen this year, now is a great time to visit Chawton House Library.
And if you love gardens as well as literature, the Estate Rambles at the former home of Austen’s brother Edward, tomorrow (Sunday), and every Sunday through the season, will provide a perfect outing.
Explore the estate of the Chawton House Library, now an internationally-renowned centre for women’s writing, in the company of garden manager Andrew Bentley.
Find out about the fascinating history of the grounds, where Jane Austen would have wandered, including the ‘wilderness’, the ‘ha-ha’, and the additions made by Edward.
Enjoy too the Elizabeth Blackwell herb garden and take in the views across the South Lawn, before relaxing in the Old Kitchen with a hearty full English breakfast.
The walk starts at 8.30am and will go ahead whatever the weather, so wear stout footwear and appropriate clothing.
