THE SOUTH Downs National Park (SDNP) is marking its seventh anniversary this year.

To celebrate, the Hampshire Ramblers, which has around 5,000 members, organised an event at the SDNP centre in Midhurst.

Members also took part in a 7.5 mile walk which took in one of the most unspoilt rivers in the UK – the Rother.

Owen Plunkett, who organised the event, said: “We had a very successful and enjoyable day. We have arranged similar events for each of the previous six years and no doubt, we will do the same next year.”

Talks were also held where members discussed the effects that Brexit will have on the countryside in terms of future funding.

Kate Ashbrook, from The Ramblers, said: “We must make sure that post-Brexit agricultural payments are used to improve public access and the landscape so that places like the South Downs National Park will benefit.”
