PETERSFIELD TOWN slipped to a 1-0 defeat against a strong Andover Town team in the sweltering heat at Love Lane on Saturday in Division 1 of the Wessex League.

Rams keeper Jordi Wilson did well early on, coming out to deny Andover’s Ryan Griffiths.

Lewis Williams grabbed the only goal of the game in the 27th minute. A diagonal ball into the box caused problems, and Williams hit his shot into the bottom corner after an excellent touch.

Six minutes later Williams went past Kieran Alcock and shot low towards the corner, but his effort was parried away by Wilson.

Petersfield created their first chance five minutes before half-time when Connor Hoare’s crossfield ball into the box found Josh Rose, but his effort came off his shoulder and provided no threat.

Andover almost doubled their advantage in the second half when Brandon Holmes’ long throw found Ben Evans, who hit his shot against the outside of the post.

The Rams created a few chances as they pushed for an equaliser.

Christian Bennett’s shot almost squirmed under the Andover keeper, but he eventually held it.

In stoppage time Mino Djaura’s shot was well blocked.
