AT 7.25am this morning it was announced that the leave the EU campaign had officially won the referendum with 17,141,742 votes.
Remain in the EU attracted 16,141,241 votes, and in total across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, 33,577,342 votes were cast.
In East Hampshire it was a record turnout with almost 74,000 people voting.
Across the district 90,588 people are eligible to vote, and of those 73,971 put their cross in either of the two boxes available on the in or out EU referendum ballot paper.
East Hampshire District Council has confirmed that the turnout was 81.7 per cent, while in the 2015 general election the turnout was 71.1 per cent.
The final result announced at about 4.10am in Petersfield Festival Hall, revealed that 37,346 people in East Hampshire voted that the UK should remain part of the European Union, while 36,576 voted to leave.
