LA LA Land may be scooping all the awards at the moment but there will be nothing La La about the fifth Liss Film Festival at the Triangle.
This year’s festival will be opened by broadcaster and writer Martin Muncaster at the opening night gala, which will feature a canapes and fizz reception before the first film is screened.
There will also be the option to turn up in 1920s dress to the opening gala tomorrow (Thursday), to tie in with the screening of Chicago.
One of the organisers of the festival, Marilyn Timney, said: “Tickets are selling well.
“The opening gala 1920s night is attracting lots of interest, and we will have the staging available for some Charleston, Turkey Trot and Jitterbug dancing.
“We will have a pianist playing appropriate tunes, and hope lots of people will get up and dance.”
Preparations are going well for the festival, which will finish with a closing gala of a two-course meal and a screening of the final film.
Tickets are on sale and this year the funds raised from the festival will be put towards the alterations to extend the coffee bar space. This year’s festival will run from tomorrow to Sunday.
The films being shown this year are Chicago, Ethel and?Ernest, the French film du Rififi chez les femmes, which will be shown with English subtitles, The Secret Life of Pets, Bridget Jones’s Baby and Eye in the Sky.
There will also be the opportunity to have afternoon tea on Friday after the screening of Ethel and?Ernest, and organisers are planning cocktails to go with Saturday evening’s screening of Bridget Jones’s Baby.
Marilyn said: “We have already taken a number of bookings for afternoon tea after Ethel and Ernest on Friday. The bakers are going to be busy.
“Planning is ongoing into cocktails to accompany Bridget Jones’s Baby on Saturday, and we have good stocks of ice cream for the festival.
“The closing gala on Sunday will be a glamorous event, with the red carpet and a photographer to capture the atmosphere.”
The Triangle After School Club have been busy making decorations for the hall.
“They do a fantastic job,” added Marilyn.
“The new centre manager, Karen Feeney, has been thrown in the deep end, helping to get things ready for the film festival, and has joined in with great enthusiasm.
“Sally Tanner was always so supportive and it is nice to see Karen continuing that.”
