A PETERSFIELD charity that re-homes Syrian refugee families here and across East Hampshire is appealing for more homes to rent so they can help more refugees and their children.
The Rural Refugee Network was founded by Julia Thistleton-Smith of Langrish and a group of her friends in 2015 and has focused on re-homing and integrating families and children from the war-torn Middle East country.
Charity spokesman Sue Halliday said: “The great need right now is for more possible landlords to discuss how they might, with our help and support, offer homes to Syrian families.
“The government’s Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Programme (SVPRP) has been extended into 2020 and we can house as many families as we can find homes for, and our success is down to the generosity of local landlords and the hard work of our volunteers.”
And the self-funded charity is hosting its annual three-mile Walk for Hope on Sunday, February 2, starting at 10.30am at Weir Field Barn, Elsted. Walk tickets are £10 a family, and there is tea, food and cakes in Elsted village hall.
