Riding school: Motorcyclists hit the road for Hampshire good causes

Motorcyclists showed have showed their class as a fundraising drive from an East Hampshire school looks set to raise a hefty sum for a pair of good causes.

More than 140 motorcycles recently made tracks to Horndean Technology College for The Fossils charity fundraising event in aid of Hampshire & IoW Air Ambulance and the SERVWESSEX Blood Runners.

The annual event organised by Waterlooville Motorcycle Club (WMCC) is a 50-mile ride-out around the East and Mid-Hampshire countryside with a halfway stop at a pub.

It was the 21st organised by the club having taken over from the Gales Brewery Classic run in the mid-2000s.

“The Fossils event is more than just a ride,” said Dave Cox of the WMCC, adding: “It’s also a great socialising opportunity with riders meeting up with old friends and making new acquaintances.”

The July 26 event began in the morning with a stunning display of motorcycles in Barton Hall before club stalwart John Jenkins sent the 130 riders off in regulated groups.

The cavalcade completed a circular route of the Meon Valley, taking in the A272 west of Petersfield and the A32 before a lunchtime break in Swanmore and an award presentation event back at HTC.

Both charities were in attendance along with Mental Health Motorbike, while a burger van, bar and raffle added to the bonhomie, with a sponsor providing the top prize of £250 in cash.

Mr Cox concluded the event by thanking riders, attendees, sponsors and those who donated raffle prizes.

He also thanked charity representatives and all the WMCC volunteers who put in so much hard work to make the day a success.

Proceeds are still being counted but organisers are hopeful the final total, with the help of sponsors, will exceed the £5,000 raised from the 2025 Fossils run.
