A GROUP of Petersfield volunteers who for years have looked after land on the edge of town has disbanded after numbers dwindled.

Rotherlands Conservation Group maintained land between Barnfield Road and Pulens Crescent which ran alongside Tilmore Brook, the River Rother, and ended at Penns Place.

A statement for the group said: “We do not have sufficient regular helpers to carry out the necessary work.

“We propose to wind up Rotherlands Conservation Group according to the constitution. Thank you for all your past support; we hope that you will continue to enjoy Rotherlands Local Nature Reserve.”

Petersfield Town Council will be discussing what to do with the land at its next grounds meeting at 6.30pm, on Thursday, July 14, in the Festival Hall.

A council spokesman said it would welcome hearing from anyone with an interest in the conservation of the land. The council can be contacted on 01730 264182.
