PLANS for garages on the Parsonage Estate in Rogate to be demolished and replaced with two houses and a bungalow are in being looked at South Downs National Park Authority.
Estate residents opposed to the proposals by the Hyde Martlett, part of th Hyde Group, for social rental houses, say that drains and sewers won’t be able to cope.
They also say that houses rented out by Hyde are regularly empty for long periods, so no new ones are needed.
They also claim that the three new homes will lead to parking problems on the estate getting worse, and say the new buildings will deprive neighbours of light.
But the developers say that the one bed bungalow will meet the needs of the local people in the direct vicinity of the development.
A Hyde spokesman said: “There are a high number of residents in the area that may wish to downsize to a single story properties.
“This in turn will free up larger family sized properties to house families waiting on the housing register.”
The two bed houses will satisfy the local need for this type of home, he added.
