A FROXFIELD resident has spoken out after rubbish was left overflowing by the bins outside village hall.

The rubbish has now been cleared, after East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) arranged for Norse South East to collect it.

Disgruntled resident Andy Picton was dismayed with the overflowing rubbish.

He took photos before the rubbish was cleared from the site, and says it has been a long-term problem for the village.

“For some extended time the Froxfield Village Hall refuse had been left in a totally unacceptable situation,” said Andy.

“Not only had the rubbish been allowed to completely overflow the available three bins, there seems to be many times when this refuse goes uncollected for extended periods of time.

“The area was a complete mess and potentially a health and safety issue, with the loose bags being on the ground and, in the past, ripped open by vermin.

“I have raised this issue several times with the village hall committee, the local parish council and brought it to the attention of Nick Drew, our EHDC councillor, with little seeming long-term effect or permanent solution.”

An EHDC spokesman detailed the action taken by the council.

The spokesman said: “The village hall is entitled to waste collections like a household would receive from the council, so a 240-litre bin of waste and recycling on alternating weeks and four-weekly glass recycling.

“If the hall has any waste in excess of this amount, it will need to arrange for it to be collected by a commercial provider.

“As a gesture of goodwill, we’ve arranged for Norse South East to clear the waste that had collected at the bins.”
