THERE were scary happenings at Haslemere Museum when it threw open its doors to take part in the Museums at Night celebrations.

As dusk fell, visitors were able to explore the galleries by torch light to help discover the wonderful artefacts.

There were some spooky surprises in store with the galleries decorated for Halloween, and even museum mascot Arthur the Bear entered into the Halloween spirit.

Everyone then enjoyed drinks and popcorn before settling down to watch a special screening of the film ‘Paddington’.

The biannual UK-wide Museums at Night festival attracts visitors into museums, galleries and heritage sites by keeping doors open after hours and putting on special evening events.

Museum education officer Kay Topping said: “The Museums at Night festival aims to inspire new visitors to discover the arts and heritage highlights on their doorstep. Tickets sold out completely for this event which was fantastic. It was lovely to see so many people seeing the Museum in a different light as it took on a new life after dark, and combined with the film screening, which was very apt, it was a great family fun evening and a Halloween night to remember.”
