Scenes of a bygone age were recreated in Rogate on Sunday, October 18, as a ploughing match saw teams of heavy horses carving up the soil in neat furrows.

Sara Billinghurst, Chairman of the Southern Counties Heavy Horse Association, which organised the event, said: "We all had a brilliant day with more than 50 horses ploughing and 25 showing.

"Southern Counties is the oldest working horse association in the UK and we can only continue with the support of the public, our generous sponsors and willing horsemen and women.

"It was a great day with fine weather and good ground conditions.

"A special thanks must go to the Davey family for hosting it at Slade Farm, a very busy farm, and who have given their fields to us every four years or so for 22 years.

"Our volunteers were brilliant this year and without whom this event would not be what it is today."
