POEMS, paintings and ceramic tiles created by children at Bedales prep school Dunhurst and Bedales pre-prep Dunannie are now on display throughout Petersfield.

Made in response to the work of Steep poet Edward Thomas and the landscape he loved, Inspired by Edward Thomas artworks can be seen in the town museum, library, at One Tree Books in Lavant Street, and Fork Handles Kitchen in St Peter’s?Road, until May 22.

There is poetry from pupils aged 11 and 12 at the museum and library, along with paintings, prints and ceramics.

Fork Handles is showcasing work from the departments of textiles and outdoor activities as well as sculpture.

A series of textured panels inspired by the Thomas poem The Lane, made by Dunannie children, are hanging at One Tree Books.

Dunannie art teacher Jacqui Uttley said:?“The children have really enjoyed working together to create colourful country scenes using a variety of crafts.”

Dunhurst’s head of art Susan McFarlane was hoping this idea of ‘art in shops’ would take off, with this becoming an annual exhibition.

“Art in shops is a relatively new phenomenon and really helps create a sense of community and identity,” she said.
