BBC TELEVISION presenter Tom Heap reopened Selborne’s natural history museum after its £3m renovation.

The new-look Gilbert White and Oates Collection museum at The Wakes in High Street was unveiled by the Countryfile presenter, to applause from scores of museum visitors, volunteers, staff and trustees.

During the free entry day last Saturday visitors could tour the museum and enjoy activities in the grounds, including performances by the Lions of Zululand dance troupe.

The renovation has been supported by £1.8m of Heritage Lottery Funding and it includes new galleries, and a new orientation room which explains the link between pioneer of natural history Gilbert White and the explorers celebrated at the museum, Frank and Lawrence Oates.
