A SERENE song recital by a former Churcher’s College student is to be the first lunchtime concert of the new year at St Peter’s Church, Petersfield.

Katie Braithwaite will be accompanied by Keval Shah at the concert on Saturday, at 1pm.

They hope to create a calm soundscape in the programme of music inspired by the theme of A Night in the Garden, featuring works by Handel, Berg, Faure, Strauss and De Falla.

Katie has a degree in history from Gonville and Caius College, Oxford, where she was a choral scholar in the college’s internationally-renowned choir.

She enjoys performing a variety of genres, including opera, oratorio and song.

Having now graduated, she sings with ensembles including Oxford Voices and the Oxford Bach Soloists.

Keval Shah is a scholarship holder at the Royal Academy of Music, where he is studying for an MA in piano accompaniment.

Admission is free, with a retiring collection to help send Katie to Nicaragua where she will be undertaking an internship with charity Eat United, distributing food to needy people, which would otherwise be wasted.
