Petersfield Museum’s extensive photographic archive holds more than 100,000 photographs of life in the town and surrounding villages.

Dating as far back as the Victorian period, these photographs represent all areas of life in Petersfield.

They act as a window into days gone by.

This photograph was taken in the early 1960s – it includes part of an early post-war car and a pre-1963 No Entry sign – and it shows staff at Norman Burton’s store at 36 High Street having to clear up broken glass from their window display.

Do you recognise any of the shop staff?

Did you shop at Burton’s?

If so, we would love to hear from you.
