BETS placed on Lambretta, Jetson Mutton, Baarmageddon and Lewis Lambleton, among other woolly competitors, helped raise £1,000 at the Stroud Revels.

Many of the 500 visitors to the annual community event took part in a fun Tote for the sheep races, with the proceeds going to the Oaks Special Needs Playscheme at Froxfield.

Other highlights at Rothercombe Farm at Stroud included a play area featuring straw bales, tunnels and tyres to climb over and through, local band The Replays, and children’s entertainer Mr Muddle’s Magical Mayhem.

The weather was perfect on Saturday too, and organisers were delighted with the event’s success. “It was a tremendous event, our biggest yet,” said Derrick Higton, chairman of the Stroud Area Residents’ Association which puts on the event.

“The sheep racing was a bit more polished this year.”
