Petersfield’s volunteer-run Shine Radio has been named the best digital community station in the UK.

The local radio station launched in August 2020 collected the gold award at the national Community Radio Awards ceremony on Saturday, November 19.

The judges said it was a ‘genuinely-impressive station with very high quality content that is clearly rooted in its community’.

Collecting the top prize, Shine presenter Harrison RB (pictured on left) said: “Thanks to you we’re officially the digital community radio station of the year. Thank you to the people of Petersfield because you make it shine.

“This is your award for your radio station and if it wasn’t for your stories and your voices, we wouldn’t be standing here.”

Shine Radio, based in Antrobus House in College Street, was also presented with awards for two of its podcasts.

The Shine Radio Recipe with Noni Needs (pictured third from left) collected the bronze prize for best podcast, while Dogs with Jobs, presented by Kate Fairweather (pictured on right), took the gold.

A Shine spokesman added: “Thank you to all our listeners who helped us scoop three Community Radio Awards.”
