East Hampshire District Council is launching a new community lottery to raise money for local good causes and is looking for organisations keen to take part.

A good causes launch event – to explain to organisations how the lottery works and how they can benefit – will be held in the council offices at Penns Place in Petersfield on February 3 from 6pm to 7.30pm.

The first draw is due to take place in April and tickets will cost £1, of which 60p will be donated to local charities. There will be a £25,000 jackpot plus smaller prizes.

Deputy council leader Cllr Julie Butler said a similar scheme run by Havant Borough Council had raised £63,000 for 84 local good causes.

She added: “This lottery is all about choice for local people.

“Anyone who buys a ticket can choose where they would like their donation to go or they can add it to a central fund where it will be split between others.”
