PASSENGERS are being advised to check the South Western Railway (SWR) timetable for services in and out of Waterloo station after a major signal failure.

Network Rail have now repaired the fault, which sparked chaos between Woking and Surbiton this morning (Wednesday, October 24).

But SWR is still advising passengers to avoid using the Portsmouth to Waterloo line unless absolutely necessary, and if they do travel, to check the timetable before setting out.

An SWR spokesman said: "Following track circuit failures between Woking and Surbiton all lines have now reopened, but train services running through these stations may be delayed or revised, with disruption expected until the end of the day.”

Services on the Portsmouth to Waterloo line via Rowlands Castle, Petersfield, Liss and Liphook were already being disrupted by the second day of a five-day walkout by members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union.

The SWR spokesman added: “A reduced service will run on most of our network from Tuesday, October 23, to Friday, October 26.

“Some routes will not have a train service or a replacement bus service.”
