PETERSFIELD Museum has announced that the actor Sir Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the patrons of the proposed new museum in Petersfield Police Station.

The sale of the police station in St Peter’s Road to the museum is due to be completed in the autumn.

The conversion of the police station to a museum, featuring a Victorian Justice visitor centre, is expected to cost millions of pounds, and the famous patrons will give the project a high profile.

Those who have agreed to support the conversion of the police station to museum include three times Oscar winner, Day-Lewis, and acclaimed author and biographer Lord Egremont of Petworth House.

As a former Bedales pupil, Day-Lewis already has links to the town, and has given his name to the annual Petersfield Town Council Sir Daniel Day-Lewis Award to mark the town’s most theatrically talented youngster.

Police have confirmed once the sale has gone through and the police station ‘de-commissioned,’ the police neighbourhood teams there will move to East?Hampshire District Council offices at Penns Place.

Police say there is no intention to reduce, or alter, the service after the move.
