FORMER South African international rugby player Thinus Delport visited Bedales School in Steep where he helped coach pupils as part of the school’s Aspire Sport programme.

Thinus, who also used to play rugby union for Gloucester and later Worcester, held an assembly on the topic of being an elite performer and gave advice to pupils on building resilience and the necessity of hard work – in sport and in academic studies.

Then in the afternoon he ran practical sessions for both Dunhurst prep school pupils and Bedales senior school students.

Head of Sport at Dunhurst, Heather Lowe said: “We are hugely appreciative of his input during the day. The children were in awe and truly inspired by his assembly. It was really interesting to hear about the journey taken to become an international performer, and how important resilience, hard work and commitment are to success.”

Delport, who is the ambassador for Project Zulu, a UK based charity which supports educational projects in South Africa, attended the school in his capacity as a Sky Sports Living for Sport Ambassador.
