THE MINISTER for national parks visited the South Downs National Park ahead of International Volunteer Day last month.
Lord Gardiner met some of the South Downs Volunteer Rangers who give up their time at Stedham Camp Site, which is run by Midhurst Youth Trust. Rangers showed him how volunteers are laying a hedge on the site, using traditional skills.
Lord Gardiner said: “I had the great pleasure of spending some time with volunteers, and their enthusiasm for the work they do was inspiring.” In 2016, the rangers gave up 6,372 days of their own time to work in the park.
