A SOUTH East Member of the European Parliament (MEP) has called on Prime Minster Theresa May to congratulate US President elect Donald Trump in person on winning the presidential election.
Formerly a UKIP member, but now an Independent MEP, Janice Atkinson is one of ten MEPs who represent the South east, including Hampshire.
She and former UKIP leadership contender, Raheem Kassem, were with Trump’s team when his victory was formerly announced on Wednesday.
Janice, who says she was in New York was on official European Parliament business, was also able to celebrate Trump’s victory with his advisors and friends in Trump Tower.
She said that traditionally American Republicans and Conservatives had close links, and to cement the ‘special relationship’ between the US and UK, Prime Minister Theresa May should congratulate Mr Trump in person.
She added: “I think the Prime Minister needs to head to the US to be the first world leader to congratulate Mr Trump in person and re-affirm our special relationship."
